Ashley James calls out £20,000 cost on women

This Morning presenter and social campaigner Ashley James has called for free period products across the nation and an end to treating the products as “a luxury”.

She’s joined forces with women-led period tracking app Clue to support their Cost of Bleeding campaign.

The campaign highlights the true cost of menstruation for many, including period products such as tampons and pads, pain killers, replacing stained clothes and bedding and even private healthcare for conditions such as endometriosis or polycystic ovaries because of long NHS wait times.

Women also pay more for products such as razors, toiletries and clothing, often referred to as the “pink tax”, adding to annual expenses for women and straining their already-tight budgets due to the gender pay gap. It’s something we know you’re tired of – we are too!

Ashley James is a constant supporter of social inequalities – especially when it comes to patriarchal issues – many of which she covers in her new book Bimbo.
