Top tips for your food budget to make your money go further

What our founder Laura said on the BBC this week

This week Laura was on BBC Morning Live with Holly Hamilton and Rav Wilding, speaking about how although food prices are expected to rise given the ongoing global conflicts – there are some things we can do to make our money go further.

Food Price Comparisons

Consumer Group Which? did some research into which supermarkets were the cheapest for branded groceries for the month of March and found that Asda came out on top.

Asda was closely followed by Tesco and Sainsbury’s – but only when a loyalty card was used. When the respective loyalty card was not used, those two supermarkets came out significantly more expensive – even more expensive than Waitrose.

Aldi and Lidl were not included in the research given they didn’t stock a sufficiently large range of branded goods. One big way people cut back on food shopping spend is to switch from branded to non-branded products – sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference!

Don’t forget deals and cashback

Whether it’s using apps like Shopmium for exclusive deals or getting cashback from TopCashback, Quidco or even Sprive – where cashback is used to pay off your mortgage!

The key things to remember when food shopping are:

  • Plan ahead of time, there’s money to be saved
  • Literally shop around – prices for the same items vary wildly
  • Use loyalty cards for the best discounts
  • Consider switches to own branded products vs branded – especially if you then choose to shop at Aldi or Lidl
  • Don’t forget cashback!

Do you have any tips to help keep your food budget down?
