What our founder Laura said on the BBC this week
This week Laura was on BBC Morning Live with Michelle Ackerley and Rav Wilding, talking through the world of cashback and why some of the biggest-sounding offers can actually end up costing you.
Why’s cashback so crucial right now?
With the cost of living still squeezing household budgets, more people are looking for small ways to claw money back on spending they’re already doing. Cashback has grown well beyond credit card rewards – it now spans dedicated websites, shopping apps, browser extensions and even current accounts.
The key principle Laura kept coming back to: match cashback to spending you were already planning to do. Whether it’s your weekly shop, annual insurance renewal or a big purchase – if you were going to spend the money anyway, you may as well see if cashback is available.
The different types of cashback
- Cashback credit or debt cards
- Websites such as TopCashback and Quidco
- Apps such as JamDoughnut, Shopmium – or even Sprive for overpaying the mortgage
The “Stacking” trick
One tip Laura shared: savvy shoppers can “stack” cashback by clicking through a cashback website and paying with a cashback credit card – earning a reward from both at the same time.
