Victoria’s Not-So-Secret Millions

Recently, OG-Youtuber turned brand owner Victoria Magrath shared in a Times magazine article that she was a millionaire.

Even in the article, you can sense the apprehension when asked the question by Harriet (@harrywalker1).

She says: “I suppose I’m a millionaire.  I didn’t come from money. I’ve always worked hard to pay my way.”  She later shares that when asked the question, she literally cringed!

It’s not surprising that Victoria feels uneasy.  Women especially are open to so much more scrutiny than men in the online space.  Anything that could even remotely be perceived as a humble brag or a boast is dangerous territory for online personalities.  At best, there may be bitchy comments between friends, but at worst they’re subject to continuous bullying and harassment.

When people open their lives up to the online world, it seems others find them fair game to judge, criticise or sometimes abuse.  Whether it be about appearances, homes, relationships or even money – it’s not surprising that there’s caution in what is said.

Later, in the comfort-zone of her Youtube channel, Victoria opens up about the interview and seems a little more relaxed talking about her successes and her resulting wealth.

She shares “I’ve never really spoken about money online before” and says when people generally ask her about how much money she’s made, it’s quite a crude question – which by the way, it is quintessentially-British-crude.

So how did Victoria become a millionaire?

Victoria has built up her wealth using a variety of public income streams:

📽️ Youtube revenue

💼 Brand deals

👖 Affiliate commission

💄Building her own brand – @byfrow

She also owns property and we’d like to think that, behind the scenes, she’s building up passive investments through ISAs and pensions.

Women especially don’t talk about money enough, especially from the wealth perspective.

She goes on to say to her Youtube community “A lot of us women feel we have to lessen ourselves, dull our own sparkle so we’re not then dragged by other people”.

We’re at a turning point…

Victoria feels there’s a turning point now, where women don’t have to necessarily do that and she says it’s a “freeing and liberating feeling”.  Whilst she may have initially cringed at answering, she ultimately decided why shouldn’t she as a woman share that she is a self-made millionaire.

A man wouldn’t hesitate to confirm millionaire status – so why should we?

Kudos to Victoria for leading the way with this reveal in the article.  We can all probably tell from Victoria’s lifestyle that she has money.  She’s a beautiful house and a designer lifestyle that is featured transparently in her content – it is obvious to many.

The very fact that she says it out loud is a big deal.  The article, about a fashion and beauty content creator and brand owner, written by the fashion editor at The Times, had its headline built around women and money.  We need more of this.
